Celebrating Diwali Minimalist style

Diwali as a Minimalist

Since ages, Diwali is always about indulgence and shopping.

Now being a Mother myself, I need to redefine the things for my Family. My Kiddo is asking for Diwali Gift and I need to show him the real meaning of gift.

The real gift is Togetherness.
If we as a Family are not together, these festivities does not hold any meaning.

WAYS TO CELEBRATE DIWALI

There are many different ways Diwali can be celebrated without excessive consumerism and polluting the environment.

Go Eco-Friendly

I was so touched when I saw this.

Eco friendly diwali

We have no right to create havoc in their lives. We are making their lives difficult for the mere joy of seconds.

This Diwali, encourage your Kids to not play Crackers but rather, make rangolis and play with colors.

Light oil filled earthen lamps rather than those plastic LED lamps and wax candles. It not only helps the environment but local handicraft vendors too.

Say No to indulgence

In earlier times, Diwali was the only time of the year when Family gets new clothes.
But now when shopping extends throughout the year, do not unnecessarily bring new things to Home rather buy only what you really need.

You can't change everyone but you can bring the change.

Re-invent the Gifts

Buy gifts with this thought in mind- They should not create clutter rather they should serve a purpose.

Make gifts for your loved ones, decorate your Home with hand-made things.

Make Diwali special for less-privileged

Not everyone is privileged enough to celebrate the festivals. Teach the value of giving to Kids this Diwali.

Distribute sweets and gifts to Orphanage Kids, Spend some time at Old-age Home and Offer Food to the hungry.

  3. How very true Upasana .. we forget the real purpose and overindulge, making Diwali smoky and dangerous. I know I can't get my children to stop bursting crackers but hoping to reduce

  5. Very nice post Upasna. Appreciate this. We have two dogs at Mom's place and both are right under the chair without moving an inch outside. They don't like crackers. They hate noise. It's true respiratory attacks are cruel. It's high time we changed crackers from being fun to dangerous.
