Beware! Are you too trapped in this belief about Self-care?

Did the heading scared you?

Do you know why self care is important?

I have always seen Parent's life revolving around their Family so much that they start feeling spending time on themselves is a non-productive thing. Self-care for them stands last with least priority.

When we became Parents, we too started getting trapped in this belief. Many times in Life, we start accepting every relationship or every thing without questioning, we ignore the fact that there are some people, situations and things that makes us feel miserable.

Self-care is engaging ourselves in the activities that charge us emotionally and physically. Minimalism gives us the freedom to do that.

What do you do when you feel down? Drink a cup of tea or sky-watch or listen to some music. But rather than occasionally, do this daily irrespective of your mood.

There will always be something that needs to be done. Something that demands our attention. But we need to accept that we can't do enough. How much we try to put in our plates, there will always be something which lacks.

This is one of the reason I do not make to-do lists because we tend to fill each minute of our day without adding any whitespace. Rather, I take up one task at a time starting with the one having highest priority.

This way, I do not end up tiring or stressing myself.

The other day while I was reading about the intake of proteins in Diet, I found myself feeling guilty for not ensuring exact protein content in my Son's diet.

See, its so easy to get negative, to feel insufficient and to not being enough.

The moment I used to wake up, I started doing everything for my Son- his breakfast, his tiffin, his activities. And then I realized I was leaving myself behind. I needed to catch up. Now, I started spending early morning time on myself- my health, my interest and when he wakes up, I happily spend quality time with him.

Am I getting selfish?? No, because spending time on yourself is the most productive thing.

The next time you do something for your loved ones, do some favor for yourself as well.

Here's to a healthy you!

  1. Great post. Its true that we need to look after ourselves as well as others. I like lists because it lets me dump the 'to dos' on to paper rather than having them all floating around in my head all the time (it actually frees space in my head). #FamilyFunLinky

    1. Thanks Kate. I think we can only take care of others whole heartedly if we keep ourselves happy. It's great that lists work for you because it makes me overwhelm rather productive. I believe different things work for different people. Could not find your Blog, please provide the link.

  2. I definitely don't give myself enough self care. I find writing a good thing and I can often do a bit of this when my little is occupied with something. Interesting post. ‪Thank you for linking up to the #familyfunlinky‬

    1. Hey Karen, you should definitely start taking care of yourself. I found that Gratitude is also a form of Self care. It hardly take 5 mins but leaves you satisfied and thankful.

  3. I always make sure as a minimum I get an hour-long bath on a Saturday while my other half watches the kids and leaves me in peace. I used to be really proud about my appearance, but now, if I want to look how I used to I have to set an alarm for 5am so I don't disrupt anyone else in the house and I don't have to worry about getting someone to field the small one when he hurls himself off the furniture.

  4. I needed to be reminded of this today. I'm just going to spend a day doing things I'd rather say no to. But...... what cannot be changed has to be endured. One day I will have the guts to say NO.
